The Academy recognises the risk that technology or knowledge developed as part of the work  supported could be misused by a foreign state to build capacity to target UK interests in a hostile fashion, or to control or repress their population. All recipients must abide by our National Security Policy, in particular, by reporting any concern about National Security to their Academy contact, attend training events around National Security risks, and abide by risk mitigation plans.

The Academy has aligned with other UK funders around the use of generative AI tools in funding applications. The Research Funders Policy Group joint statement sets out our expectations around the use of generative AI tools in applications and assessment. In 2023, HM Treasury invited submissions to its consultation on whether the SME and RDEC R&D tax relief schemes should be merged and the form that single scheme should take.
