We are a national academy with a global outlook. Engineering research, practice and markets rely on transnational flows of goods, services, knowledge and people, and engineers have essential roles to play in addressing the world’s most pressing challenges, including climate change, pandemic preparedness, and international security.
The Academy's international interests include developing relations with other national academies; leading debate and public policy projects; promoting UK engineering capability and building capacity in developing countries.
International partnerships
International Relations
Through partnerships with national academies for engineering and technology around the world, we aim to strengthen global engineering leadership and promote UK expertise and interests.
Global Grand Challenges Summit
The Global Grand Challenges Summit is a series of biennial summits held jointly by the UK, US and Chinese academies of engineering.
International expertise
International Fellows
The Academy’s Fellowship represents the best of engineering research, innovation, entrepreneurship and business and industry leadership.
International partners
The Academy works with a variety of other national academies of engineering from all around the world.
International committee
All of the Academy’s international networks and programmes are overseen by its International Committee. From June 2022, the Chair of International Committee is Dame Sarah Springman DBE FREng.
International Mobility programmes
Through the Distinguished International Associates programme, the Academy supports excellent international engineers to intensify already existing links to the UK.
International collaborations
The Academy's overarching strategic goals of harnessing the power of engineering to build a sustainable society and an inclusive economy that works for everyone must be considered in a global context to be meaningful.
Our partnerships seek to address shared global challenges such as climate change, the road to net zero, and harnessing technology for good.
We work alongside policy makers, industry stakeholders, government officials, and engineers to foster international collaboration, particularly in policy, research and innovation.
By working closely with other national academies, our International Partnership Programmes aim to:
- mobilise the global engineering community to address global challenges
- promote the UK’s global position in engineering and innovation
- stimulate more effective research and innovation partnerships
