T Levels are part of the government’s plans to systematically reform technical education, ensuring that individuals can develop the technical knowledge and skills that industry needs through their education and training.
T Levels are a new two-year programme which will become one of the main choices for students after GCSEs alongside apprenticeships and A-Levels. They provide students with a mixture of classroom and workplace-based learning with a substantial industry placement of 45 days. One T Level is equivalent to 3 A Levels and attracts the same UCAS points. There are many different T Levels covering a wide range of sectors and interest from agriculture to catering to engineering and manufacturing.
The T Level in engineering and manufacturing launched in September 2022 and is currently delivered by over 75 schools and colleges across England. There are three options for students wishing to complete an engineering and manufacturing T Level. These are:
- Design and development for engineering and manufacturing
- Engineering, manufacturing, processing and control
- Maintenance, installation and repair for engineering and manufacturing
