About the programme
The Engineering Leaders Scholarships (ELS) programme provides support for undergraduates in UK Higher Education Institutions, who display the potential to become leaders and innovators in engineering, and who want to become leadership role models for the next generation of engineers.
These scholarships help ambitious undergraduates, in engineering and related disciplines, to undertake an accelerated personal development programme, which will help them to gain the necessary skills to become engineering leaders, soon after graduating.
Successful awardees will receive:
- £5,000 to be used over three years, towards career-related personal development activities
- Dedicated training and networking events
- The support of an Academy Mentor
- Invitations to exclusive Academy events and opportunities
- Access to an alumni community of over 300 engineers
The Academy is committed to diversity and inclusion and encourages applications from women, and Black, Asian, and other minority ethnic groups who are currently under-represented in engineering, including those studying at post-92 universities.
"The ELS programme was incredibly empowering because it was something from the profession that says yes, you can and yes, you belong."
“As a first generation student, the ELS and Sir Ralph Robins Scholarship have been nothing less than transformative for me. The award enabled me to pursue personal growth at a vastly quicker rate than would otherwise have been possible. It provided the resources for me to follow through on my curiosity, and execute what otherwise would have been left as ideas in my head."
Alumni Case Studies
We recently published a Case Study Brochure, in celebration of 30 of our fantastic Engineering Leaders Scholarship Alumni. The brochure testifies to the success of the scheme, and tells the stories of exceptional engineers who have become leaders in sectors as varied as digital healthcare, international development and low-carbon aircraft.
Each of these engineers benefited from the mentoring, network building, and personal development funding offered by the ELS scheme, with many crediting the programme with setting their career off in the right direction, and giving them confidence in their ambitions.
Sir Ralph Robins Scholarships
Applicants for the Engineering Leaders Scholarship can also apply for the Sir Ralph Robins Scholarship (SRRS). Recipients will be awarded an additional £5,000 to put towards tuition fees and potentially a 10-week or one-year paid internship at Rolls-Royce plc. Three enhanced SRRS are available each year. This award is dedicated to Sir Ralph Robins FREng who had a long and distinguished career at Rolls Royce.
