Eligibility criteria
- Applicants should hold a permanent academic position at a UK university at lecturer, senior lecturer, or reader level (or equivalent).
- Applicants must be teaching an engineering discipline at undergraduate or postgraduate level.
- The university at which the applicant is employed must be the host institution where the Fellowship will be held and must agree to release the applicant from teaching and related administrative duties if awarded.
- Applicants must be able to demonstrate a significant administrative workload which prevents them from dedicating as much time to research as they would like and that they, therefore, merit being relieved of their teaching and administrative duties.
- There are no nationality or age restrictions for applicants.
- The proposed research project can be in any engineering discipline. Engineering is defined in its broadest sense, encompassing a wide range of diverse fields, including computer science and materials. - Applications will be assessed based on whether there is a clear engineering problem being addressed and whether engineering-led methods or solutions are central to the proposed work. Applications with interdisciplinary elements must therefore demonstrate a clear engineering component.
- Awards can be held on a part-time basis; please refer to section on part-time and flexible working (page 8) in the RAEng-Leverhulme Trust Research Fellowships Guidance Notes 2026-2027 for more details.

- Research Fellowships cannot be jointly hosted by multiple institutions.
- It is the applicant’s responsibility to contact the host institution to gain their formal approval before applying.
