The Royal Academy of Engineering is delighted to welcome the 2026/27 cohort of Visiting Professors (VPs) and Academic Champions (ACs) to this year’s Visiting Professors’ Induction Day.

The Visiting Professors Induction Day will bring together experienced engineers, entrepreneurs, consultants and innovators into UK universities, helping to strengthen the connection between engineering education and professional practice. This induction event marks the beginning of the three-year award period and provides an opportunity for new VPs and ACs to learn more about the scheme, the support available through the Academy and the opportunities that come with being part of the Visiting Professors community. Attendance at the induction is a key part of participation in the programme.
The event will also provide valuable opportunities to meet fellow award holders, share plans and ideas, discuss common challenges and build connections that can support collaboration throughout the lifetime of the award. Whether you are joining the scheme as a Visiting Professor or an Academic Champion, the day is designed to help you make the most of your involvement and become part of a growing community committed to inspiring the next generation of engineers.

Christopher Hamlin FREng
Chris is Director of Operational Certainty Consulting at Emerson Automation Solutions. He applies his deep knowledge and experience of automation and process manufacturing to the world’s largest production sites and mega-projects. He has pioneered the practical application of novel automation technologies throughout his career, including electronic marshalling of field instrumentation, and most recently the application of digital techniques to the sustainability challenges facing the process manufacturing sector.
Chris has a track-record of voluntary service, including long-time involvement with training and development of automation engineers. He has been Chair of the Organising Committee of the. UK’s Advances in Process Automation and Control conference series since 2010.
