The CNC machines module consists of four learning resources which should be completed in sequence,
- Using CNC machines
- Understanding CNC Machines
- Programming CNC machines
- The future of CNC
Each resource includes the following:
- Practitioner resource slides including detailed delivery notes and additional suggestions
- Learner versions of the resource slides without delivery notes
- Printable activity sheets to support the written activities within the resource
Use the 'Download all files' option at the bottom of this page to save all the resources on this page.
1. Understanding CNC machines
This Level 2 resource introduces definitions for CAD, CAM and CNC, and common types of CNC machine. It also helps learners to identify advantages of CNC and where manual machining may still be preferable.
2. Using CNC machines
This Level 3 resource helps learners to select a CNC machine to use and identify wider considerations when selecting CNC machines, reflect on important safe working practices,
3. Programming CNC machines
This Level 3 resource follows and optimises simple G-code, and considers some advantages of indexed and continuous multi-axis CNC machines.
4. Future of CNC
This Level 3 resource also supports learners to reflect on how additive CNC may work alongside other technologies in ‘smart factories’ and how these developments may shape their career.
