Professor Peter Cummings is a world leader in the transformation of molecular-level simulation, from it being primarily a way to validate theory or explain experimental findings to a discovery tool that can function as an equal partner with experiment and theory in understanding and designing engineering-relevant systems. His seminal contributions have been widely applied in traditional (computational materials modelling, liquid state theory) and non-traditional fields (chemical process design, bacterial transport, and cancer modelling), often elucidating mechanisms that escaped previous studies.
