Professor Mercedes Maroto-Valer is a global leader in industrial decarbonisation and energy systems. As the appointed UKRI Industrial Decarbonisation Research Champion, she also leads the Industrial Decarbonisation Research Centre, shaping UK and UN policy. Her pioneering research in carbon capture and energy transition technologies influenced capture processes, metrology and regulatory frameworks. She directs major doctoral training programmes and advocates for diversity in engineering, recognised at COP28 with the Net Zero Female Innovator Award. She has held leadership roles at Mission Innovation, the UN Council of Engineers for the Energy Transition, and at Royal Academy of Engineering committees.
