She has made seminal contributions in both experimental and computational aspects of soil behaviour and geotechnical engineering and has pioneered the application of advanced numerical analysis techniques in engineering practice, providing a vital bridge between academia and industry. She has received major awards for both her research and for its application to engineering practice, where it has enabled deeper insight and understanding of the way geotechnical structures behave, which in turn has resulted in considerable cost savings in design.
