Professor Ignacio Grossmann is a world-leading expert in process systems engineering and mathematical optimisation. He has made groundbreaking contributions to theory and algorithms for discrete and continuous optimisation models, and to the solution of complex design and operational problems in the process, energy, logistics and IT sectors. He has been instrumental in the adoption of these techniques in industry, through his software, teaching and longstanding international academic and industrial collaborations. He is a committed mentor and educator, who has delivered numerous short courses around the world and influenced generations of researchers. He has authored more than 700 papers and two textbooks. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering in the US, of the Mexican Academy of Engineering, and a Foreign Academic of the Chemical and Physical Sciences Section, Royal Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences of Spain. He has honorary doctorates from nine universities in Argentina, Finland, Germany, Russia, Slovenia, and Spain.
