Professor Dina D’Ayala is a globally recognised expert in protecting infrastructure and cultural heritage from natural hazards. She pioneered engineering methods for assessing unreinforced masonry buildings, now embedded in national and international standards, and patented seismic protection devices for heritage structures. A strong advocate of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, she advises the World Bank’s Global Programme for Safer Schools and the UNESCO Disaster Risk Reduction Unit on resilience strategies to ensure continuity of education. She currently leads the UNESCO Chair in Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience Engineering, advancing global access to resilience engineering education and creating an interdisciplinary community of practice for sustainable and resilient social infrastructure.
