David Barber is a scientist researching novel techniques in AI. He is well known for developing probabilistic methods within machine learning, including classification and large-scale machine learning. He has translated this into several application areas including neuroscience, medical diagnosis and natural language processing. His free textbook is used at many prestigious institutions globally. He is a serial entrepreneur, creating the companies re:infer (a natural language processing company sold to UiPath in 2022), Humanloop (a large language model (LLM) company acquired by Anthropic in 2025) and Vectify (an LLM company that provides accurate information retrieval services).
