Beverley Gibbs is a national leader in engineering education whose work has reshaped how the UK develops engineering capability. With a career spanning industrial practice, applied research and senior academic leadership, she is recognised for creating and strengthening new engineering institutions and for advancing inclusive, profession centred approaches to engineering education. She has played a pivotal role in establishing two of the UK’s newest engineering universities. At NMITE she led the academic mobilisation that enabled the institute to deliver engineering education reliably, credibly and at scale. At the Dyson Institute she expanded the academic portfolio, embedded a productive research culture and led the institute to Full Degree Awarding Powers, the first new provider to successfully complete the UK’s regulatory probationary process. She previously held senior roles at the University of Sheffield and UCL, leading major curriculum transformation, securing engineering accreditation and contributing to research on engineering’s societal responsibilities. As Vice-President and President Elect of the Engineering Professors’ Council she shapes policy and practice across the UK engineering education community. In 2025 she was invited to join the Social Mobility Commission’s Economic Growth & Investment Group, bringing expertise in employer education partnerships and regional capability.
