Can I host more than one student?
Depending on the number of successful intern applications and available budget, you may have the opportunity to host more than one intern.
Is there a chance for extension of the intern placement?
This will be reviewed on a round by round basis. Please reach out to the Programme Manager.
Can we increase the award budget post application?
Yes, it is possible to increase or decrease your budget but there is a deadline for this. Please see the Guidance notes for the current round for more information.
I am on annual leave during the summer, can I delegate responsibility to a lead in my laboratory?
Yes, you can name an alternative supervisor who can act as host in your absence. This must be stated on your application form.
How long are the placements?
4-12 weeks, at your discretion.
Do I get a choice in the intern accepted?
Yes, you will informally interview shortlisted candidates and have the final decision in who is employed on your project.
Is there a chance to attend Academy events?
Yes, you and your intern will be invited to attend and present at the annual “Research Forum” at Prince Philip House, London.
Will the student be employed by the Academy?
No, they will be an employee of the university and you must ensure they are offered a contract of employment.
Will this be an amendment to my existing RAEng research contract?
No, this will be a new award with a contract between the university and the Academy.
Can I submit two ideas?
No. In order to increase the regionality of the scheme we will only consider one application per host.

Can industrial partners apply for the scheme?
No, the student must be in post at a UK (United Kingdom) academic institution.
