The Prize was established with kind support from the Worshipful Company of Armourers and Brasiers and is awarded to an individual, based in the UK, for excellence in Materials Engineering demonstrated by the successful application of novel materials science and technology in practical engineering systems.
‘Practical engineering systems’ is taken to cover all and any fields of engineering (e.g. aerospace, construction, biomedical, electronics, transport, energy, sensors and instrumentation, chemical plant, catalysts etc.)
‘Successful application’ is taken to mean that the materials science and technology element has been a significant factor in the engineering system creating tangible impact on market sales, economic development or societal well-being.
'Novel materials science and technology’ is taken to mean a new materials development either in the materials science itself or in the application of previously applied science in a wholly novel way in the engineering system.
The award will be made by the Royal Academy of Engineering biennial, in odd years, and will consist of a £2,000 prize.
The recipient of the prize will be selected by the Royal Academy of Engineering's Awards Committee, with a representative from the Worshipful Company of Armourers and Brasiers.
Nominations can be submitted by any individual or organisation.
Submissions must give the following information:
· Particulars of nominee.
· Citation of not more than 500 words.
· Curriculum vitae of not more than two pages should be attached.
· Letters of support from two referees should be attached (not including the Nominator and at least one from outside the Nominee's organisation).
Self-nominations are not accepted, however, if you are interested in this award but do not know of anyone to nominate you please contact the Academy.
Only completed nominations will be considered. Please ensure that the nomination form is complete with CV and letters of support at the time of submission.
Each nominator can submit no more than three nominations in any one year for the award.
Submissions will must be submitted no later than 4pm on Friday 26 February 2021.
