The Colin Campbell Mitchell Award is awarded to an individual or team of up to six engineers either working or studying in the UK who have made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of any field of engineering within the four years prior to the making of the award.
The Colin Campbell Mitchell Award recognises individuals or teams (up to six engineers) working or studying in the UK who have made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of any engineering field within the last four years.
Award Details:
- Individual winner: £3,000 cash prize.
- Team winner: £6,000 cash prize (shared among team members).
The recipient(s) of the Colin Campbell Mitchell Award will be selected by the Royal Academy of Engineering's Awards Committee. The Award will not be made if in any year the Academy so decides.
Nominations can be submitted by any individual or organisation.
Eligibility
- Nominees must be individuals or teams (maximum of six members) working or studying in the UK.
- Self-nominations are not accepted. If you wish to be considered but do not have a nominator, please contact the Academy.
Nomination Requirements
Details of the Nominee
- This should include name, job title, organisation and contact details of the Nominee and a short 50-word citation describing the Nominee's excellence in any engineering field.
- Curriculum Vitae (CV) A one-page CV for each nominee highlighting achievements relevant to the award.
Citation
A statement of up to 500 words describing the nominee’s outstanding contribution to advancing UK engineering within the last four years. The statement might include specific details such as:
- The background and significance of the work.
- The key engineering challenges addressed.
- The innovative methods or approaches applied.
- The impact of the contribution on the field, industry, or society.
These are provided as guidance and are not an exhaustive list.
Letters of Support
Nominators must provide letters of support from two referees. To ensure an impartial perspective, at least one referee must be from outside of the Nominee's organisation. The Nominator cannot be a referee. Each reference should be:
- Evidence-based, with specific examples of the nominee's achievements and influence.
- Objective, providing an unbiased evaluation of the nominee's qualifications, work, and contributions to the area.
- Authored by an individual with relevant experience and a thorough understanding of the Nominee's work and field of expertise.
Additional Guidelines
- Self-nominations are not accepted. However, if you are interested in this award but do not know of anyone to nominate you, please contact the Academy for assistance.
- Only completed nominations will be considered. Please ensure that the nomination form is complete with CVs and letters of support at the time of submission.
- Each nominator can submit up to three nominations for the Award in any year.
- Submissions must be made via the Academy’s Grant Management System no later than 4pm on Tuesday, 11 February 2025.
