Winners of the Colin Campbell Mitchell Award receive a prize of up to £6,000. It is presented annually to an engineer or small team of engineers who have made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of any field of UK engineering.

2020 - Reaction Engines

A team from Reaction Engines, led by Dr Helen Webber, won the award for the successful completion of high-temperature tests of a unique precooler system for the SABRE engine project.

2019 - University of Nottingham, Monica Healthcare and GE Healthcare

A multidisciplinary team of engineers and healthcare experts from the University of Nottingham, Monica Healthcare and GE Healthcare received the award.

2018 - A team from University of Nottingham and Teledyne e2v

A multidisciplinary team of engineers from the University of Nottingham and Teledyne e2v received the 2018 award. The team developed MicroHammer, a revolutionary process for extracting copper from its ore using microwave technology.

2016 - Ultrahaptics

Awarded to three researchers from Bristol-based start-up Ultrahaptics for their achievements in bringing virtual reality to life. Ultrahaptics have revolutionised the way people can interact with technology.

2015 - University College London's Optical Networks Group

Awarded for their pioneering contributions to optical communications technology. One of the world’s foremost research teams in this area, the ONG has made revolutionary strides towards maximizing the capacity of fibre optic communication networks. The technology is key to successfully transmitting ever-increasing quantities of information over both long- and short-distances.

2014 - Ford's 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine

The British team behind the development of Ford’s internationally commended, low fuel consumption 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine was awarded the inaugural Colin Campbell Mitchell Award.
