Industrial Fellowships 2024
Dr Amit Yadav is an expert in the field of laser and device physics, and novel lighting devices. He holds a bachelor’s in technology from GGSIP University, Delhi and an MSc (EEE) from the University of Glasgow. He obtained his PhD on photonic devices at Aston University and currently conducts his research on novel light emitters at Aston University’s Institute of Photonic Technologies (AIPT).
Dr Yadav’s research interests include light emitting optoelectronic devices, laser physics, frequency combs and integrated photonics. He has experience in ultrafast semiconductor laser development which includes edge emitting quantum dot mode-locked lasers, quantum well lasers, Q-switched laser, optically pumped continuous wave and mode-locked vertical external cavity surface emitting lasers (VECSELs), electrically pumped VECSELs along with quantum dot (QD) photo conductive antenna (PCA) for THz generation, erbium fibre amplifiers, laser ablation/stealth dicing and quantum cascade lasers (QCLs). He also has experience in semiconductor fabrication and on wafer electrical characterisation.
The aim of his Royal Academy of Engineering Industrial Fellowship is to develop a novel technological approach to realise compact, efficient and tuneable visible wavelength sources based on a high-gain and low-loss Ce-doped glass. Such doped glass will be developed in collaboration with the industrial partner Glass Technology Services Ltd. They aim to develop solid-state lasers using Ce-doped glass as the gain material for good beam quality, high plug-in efficiency, stability and compactness. This laser technology will be attractive for many emergent applications such as optical coherence tomography, visible light communication, automotive lidars, and so on.
