Professor Julian J Bommer FREng
Senior Research Investigator, Imperial College London
Professor Julian Bommer is a civil engineer who works at the interface between Earth sciences and geotechnical and structural engineering, with a specific focus on mitigation of the risks posed by natural and induced earthquakes. He is a globally recognised expert in these fields who has contributed extensively to the state of practice in seismic hazard assessments for critical infrastructure, especially nuclear power plants.
He pioneered traffic light systems for the control of induced seismicity and has promoted risk-informed engineering solutions to the management of induced earthquake risk. He has received national and international accolades for his innovative work.
