How is engineering addressing SDG 3?
Kitty Liao is CEO and Founder of Ideabatic. With a background in electronic engineering and physics, she has spent more than 10 years working with cold systems. Now through Ideabatic, she works on engineering innovations that help to improve people’s lives in underserved communities, such as smart vaccine carrier SMILE. In 2018, Kitty was awarded a Royal Academy of Engineering Enterprise Fellowship to support her work in refining the technology, trialling its use and bringing it to market.
What is SDG 3?
Good health is essential to sustainable development but many challenges exist in meeting this goal. These include widening economic and social inequalities, rapid urbanization, threats to the climate and the environment, the continuing burden of HIV and other infectious diseases, and emerging challenges such as noncommunicable diseases.
This goal requires multisectoral, rights-based and gender-sensitive approaches to address inequalities and to build good health for all.
The Royal Academy of Engineering supports the Sustainable Development Goals.
