Project overview
When people think about renewable energy they typically think of solar panels and wind turbines; technologies that generate clean electricity. However, the provision of clean heating represents a major challenge. Currently, UK manufacturing industries consume a significant amount of fossil fuels to generate the heat necessary to manufacture a wide range of products. This project will explore the role of heat pumps as a means of electrifying UK industry heat demand. Mathematical models of industrial heat pumps will be developed, which will then be used to assess heat pump performance within different UK manufacturing sectors.
Dr Martin White is currently a Senior Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering and a member of the Thermo-Fluid Mechanics Research Centre (TFMRC) at the University of Sussex. He is also currently the recipient of a Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellowship (2019-2024).
Piyathida Suwannakat is an undergraduate student pursuing a bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Sussex.
