Project overview
Floating offshore wind farms rely on accurate models of the winds, waves, and currents both prior to construction to design the platforms and turbines, and during the wind farm’s life to plan inspection and maintenance operations. This engineering internship will assess new methods for modelling the environmental conditions at proposed offshore wind farm sites in the Celtic Sea. Using data collected from these sites, the intern will be responsible for validating the modelling approach, providing long-term resource assessments, and for outlining how these new models can be integrated with a machine learning technique to provide low-cost metocean forecasts.

Liam Eagling is a Renewable Energy Engineering undergraduate at The University of Exeter. He has a keen interest in the Floating Offshore Wind industry and is studying his degree with a view to participating in the future advancement of the technology in this sector.
