Visiting Professor
Professor Stephen O’Connor is a chartered biomedical engineer with an international reputation in the medical device industry as an expert in implantable devices. His work on implantable devices has benefited millions of patients worldwide. He advanced medical technology to improve diagnosis, therapy and most importantly patient outcomes. He was awarded a Doctor of Science degree in recognition of his outstanding contribution to engineering and physics in medicine in 2019 and elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2021. He has also contributed hugely to the work of professional bodies, particularly the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine, IPEM, as President 2019-21 and a volunteer in many roles for over three decades. He was awarded the Manufacturers’ Award for Innovation by IPEM in 2015 and the Callendar Award for an outstanding contribution to the art of instruments or measurement by the Institute of Measurement and Control in 2022. Stephen’s aim is to improve student satisfaction by bringing Biomedical Engineering to life with expert speakers from a variety of disciplines.
