ITP Aero UK is a world-leading aircraft engine and component company, with over 4,200 employees and facilities in Spain, the UK, Mexico, Malta and India. ITP Aero develops technology to drive the aerospace industry towards a more sustainable future.
ILP graduates from ITP Aero evaluated, reflected and acted on the cognitive diversity of the company’s engineering population to improve the way they attract and develop individuals. Key project deliverables included data gathering and review of team diversity data and embedding diversity of thought in recruitment and professional development processes.

The ITP Aero team included:
- Gervasio Salerno, Mid-career leader (Project Lead)
- James Mason, Early-career leader
- Sarah Wales, HR Leader
- Robert Mitchell, Senior-career leader

We need to actively challenge biases, advocate for underrepresented voices, and create spaces where everyone can contribute and thrive.
Gervasio Salerno, Special Processes Manager, Mid-career Leader (Project Lead)
“The ILP led to a transformative journey for our team that has challenged our assumptions and expanded our understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) beyond surface-level concepts. It has equipped us with invaluable tools to foster a truly inclusive culture – both individually and collectively.
As an inclusive leader in my workplace, I strive to foster open and honest conversations about EDI, making it safe for my team to express their concerns and ideas.
In the future, I would like to see more inclusive leaders in the engineering industry who actively champion diversity and equality, making lasting structural changes rather than one-off initiatives.
As organisations face increasing pressure and some withdraw from their EDI commitments, this program has reinforced our belief that inclusion isn’t just a choice, but a responsibility. Now, more than ever, we must remain committed to driving meaningful change and ensuring that inclusivity remains at the heart of everything we do."
Rob Mitchell, ITP Aero, Head of Engineering, Senior-career Leader
“The ILP allowed me to make time to engage on the importance of inclusivity with others across my organisation and across the broader industry, to reflect and to act.
As an inclusive leader, I show up in my workplace by ensuring I am actively listening and that I am challenging the status quo.
I would like to see the engineering industry continue to drive societal improvements in an inclusive way by harnessing the power of diversity of thought.

Sarah Wales, UK Head of HR, HR Leader
The ILP gave me the space to reflect on my own inclusive leadership and question how I can do better.
As an inclusive leader, I ensure in my own team that all team members feel able to speak up and challenge and feel safe doing so.
In the future I’d like to see the engineering industry better reflect the society we live in, at all levels. I’d encourage engineers to take small actions every day that will contribute to a more inclusive engineering industry in the future. Together we can make big changes.
