José Suárez
José Suárez is both a physician, and clinical surgical assistant. Since 2005, he has studied industrial design with the aim of developing improved medical devices and surgical instruments. As of 2024, he has ran more than 11 projects in 12 years responding to medical therapeutics and technical problems, as well as educational challenges for both patients and surgeons. His startup, BOi, has been granted a patent as of 2020, and is currently undergoing validation in the relevant environment.
BOi is an implantable device improving quality of life for patients with intestinal ostomy, such as those with colorectal cancer. BOi reduces the time of use for the collection bags, thereby providing the user with increased control over the discharge of stool. This not only allows for greater personal hygiene, but increases the users sense of autonomy during social, vocational and recreational activities, and reducing public expenditure on healthcare.
