Industrial Fellowships Round 18
Dr Arturas Adomkevicius specialises in energy storage technologies at Swansea University. He collaborates with Enserv Power to bridge the gap between laboratory research and practical application in the realm of advanced battery systems. This partnership focuses on all-solid-state batteries (ASSBs), a breakthrough in energy storage that promises enhanced efficiency and stability. It capitalises on Dr Adomkevicius's extensive background in electrochemistry and targets the use of two-dimensional transitional metal oxide cathodes.
Using Dr Adomkevicius' expertise, the research initiative aims to optimise charge transfer and kinetics, eliminating conventional conductive additives and promoting the development of gradient between solid-state electrolytes and two-dimensional transitional metal oxide as cathodes to reduce interfacial resistance. Research outcomes are expected to have profound implications for the ASSB market, potentially allowing for batteries with greater energy density and better cycle life, all while maintaining heightened safety standards.
Dr Adomkevicius is committed to investigating the mechanical, electrochemical, and chemical properties of these novel materials. The findings of these studies are critical to understanding the complexities of lithium and sodium metal behaviours, and contributing to improving the long-term performance and longevity of batteries by preventing soft shorting.
Dr Adomkevicius aims to translate academic innovations into scalable manufacturing processes, which is essential for potentially contributing to the industrial landscape of regions such as South Wales, as well as advancing battery technology. In a blend between scholarly research and industrial expertise, Dr Adomkevicius focuses on creating reliable, efficient energy storage systems that support a sustainable future.
