Anne K. Rweyora (Uganda) - Smart Havens Africa
Smart Havens Africa is at the forefront of developing climate-smart homes, designed and built by women, for women.
By facilitating the development of affordable housing, they are addressing gender-based housing disparities and creating a safer, healthier environment for women and their families. Women-headed households benefit from affordable and climate-resilient housing; women in construction gain economic independence and empowerment; communities benefit from sustainable, environmentally friendly housing; the environment benefits from a reduced carbon footprint, and the conserved use of resources.
Their technology reduces the use of embodied materials by 71%, energy consumption by 45%, and the use of water by 27%. By training and employing women in construction, they have created a sustainable and inclusive business model, and are helping to promote gender equality in the construction industry.
