Professor Robert Zimmerman is Chair in Rock Mechanics at Imperial College London. He has made fundamental advances in the mechanics of fluid-saturated geological media, and his work on the mechanical deformation and failure of rocks is widely used throughout the oil and gas industry, and in the field of nuclear waste disposal. He has been Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences since 2006, has published over 200 papers in refereed scientific journals and conferences, and is the co-author, with JC Jaeger and NGW Cook, of the definitive monograph Fundamentals of Rock Mechanics.
