Professor Qiuhua Liang FREng
Professor of Water Engineering and UNESCO Chair in Informatics and Multi-hazard Risk Reduction, Loughborough University
Professor Qiuhua Liang is a world expert in computational hydraulics who has pioneered advanced numerical techniques for environmental flow simulation and flood risk assessment. His research has led to significant scientific and societal impact.
His High-Performance Integrated hydrodynamic Modelling System (HiPIMS) has been used to produce flood risk maps to inform national policy and investment in China; standardise risk assessment methodology for glacier outburst floods in Nepal; and in the National Digital Twin Programme to improve infrastructure resilience in UK.
He holds a prestigious UNESCO Chair at Loughborough University where he founded the International Centre for Informatics and Disaster Resilience.
