Professor Kate Black is recognised for her outstanding work as an entrepreneurial innovator in additive manufacturing. She is an engineering academic who has twice established spinout companies and has used her experiences to support young engineers entering the profession. She has a strong focus on equality, diversity and inclusion, and a passion for changing the manufacturing culture for a resilient future. Her work in developing novel reactive inks and binders for printing technologies has enabled her to exploit these and has impacted fields including automotive, aerospace, orthopaedics, printed electronics, energy devices, fraud in metallic components, and cosmetics.
