Steve Featherstone has undertaken leadership roles in two safety-critical industries, gas and rail, and has served as President of the engineering institutions in both industries. Following a fatal train crash in 2007, Steve joined the rail industry as the national maintenance director, reducing the maintenance backlog from 25% to virtually zero. In 2012, Steve took over the national Track Projects portfolio, championing the high-speed handback programme allowing newly installed infrastructure to be handed back at 125mph. Steve also led his team to the award of 8 Safety Swords of Honour and a Globe of Honour for Sustainability Excellence.
