Professor Sergei Turitsyn FREng

Professor and Director of the Institute of Photonic Technologies, Aston University 

Professor Sergei Turitsyn is distinguished by his world-leading applications of nonlinear science for innovative photonic technologies. He pioneered a new type of laser featuring simple design and high performance (random distributed feedback fibre lasers); the application of Nyquist pulses in fibre-optic communications, and the nonlinear Fourier transform technology, potentially unlocking capacity of the communications systems in the nonlinear regime. He combines his research achievements with the leadership of the world-renowned Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies that he established in 2011.
