Professor Hannah Fry HonFREng
Professor in the Mathematics of Cities, UCL; author and presenter
Professor Hannah Fry is a professor in the mathematics of cities at UCL. In her day job, she uses mathematical models to study patterns in human behaviour, and has worked with governments, police forces, health analysts and supermarkets. She works alongside a unique mix of physicists, mathematicians, computer scientists, architects and geographers to study the patterns in human behaviour – particularly in an urban setting. Her research applies to a wide range of social problems and questions, from shopping and transport to urban crime, riots and terrorism and she has applied this research by advising and working alongside governments, police forces, supermarkets and health analysts.
Winner of the prestigious Zeeman Medal, recognising her work in engaging the UK public with mathematics, Hannah is also a trusted and well-recognised presenter, known for her joyful ability to bring maths to life for audiences of all interests and abilities. Her expertise is regularly called upon to develop and host documentaries, present radio shows and podcasts, and give talks to a range of audiences. Her ability to engage and enthuse people with even the most complicated topics is equally evident on the page and her books delight readers around the globe.
