Professor Conchúr Ó Brádaigh FREng

Head of School and Chair of Materials Engineering, University of Edinburgh 

Professor Conchúr Ó Brádaigh is a world-leading technologist in design of thermoplastic and thermoset composites and in the novel tooling and production processes required to manufacture these structures. He has also developed innovations in aerospace and renewable energy, e.g., novel turbine blade designs for wind and ocean energy structures.  His contributions to both engineering research in composite materials and processes and to the industrial applications of these processes has been significant. He has demonstrated leadership in university spinout growth and development, in establishing the SFI MaREI research centre in Ireland and in successfully growing the School of Engineering at Edinburgh.
