Professor Brian Hoyle FREng
Professor (part-time), University of Leeds
Professor Brian Hoyle is distinguished for his engineering leadership in innovation, business and communication of multi-spatial sensing technologies impacting healthcare, providing transformative insight in industrial process design and creating global consortia that have driven innovation. An example is assistive technology able to synthesise a ‘mind map’ of the path ahead of a visually impaired person, enhancing their safety and dignity. A further example is ‘process tomography’, able to continuously track 3D material composition within the steel vessel of a manufacturing process, such as a pharmaceuticals plant, ensuring products meet product specification and environmental goals. His innovations have had enduring and significant economic and social impact.
