Gary Aitkenhead is Senior Vice President of Operations at Equinix where he leads the engineering, construction and operations of critical data centre infrastructure across Europe, Middle East and Africa. Gary and his team of nearly 2,000 engineers and technicians help power Equinix’s trusted global platform to bring together and interconnect the foundational infrastructure that fuels the success of customers and partners around the world.

Gary has a rich history of outstanding leadership of technologically innovative organisations. Much of his early career was in the development and supply of mission-critical wireless communications systems. His engineering creativity is recognised with more than 20 patents in digital radio technology.

Prior to Equinix, Gary was Chief Executive of the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory, a strategic multi-discipline organisation with 4,000 engineers and scientists supporting the defence and security of the UK. He also gained commercial business leadership experience and skills at Sepura plc and spent 24 years with Motorola Solutions Inc. Gary earned a first-class honours degree from the University of Strathclyde.
