AkzoNobel Chair in Corrosion Control, University of Manchester

Stuart Lyon is currently AkzoNobel Chair in Corrosion Control and Academic Director of the AkzoNobel/University of Manchester Research Partnership in Protective Organic Coatings.

Inspired by watching his father’s beloved Rover gradually rust away, Stuart began his career researching atmospheric corrosion and protection of materials and is now a leading expert on corrosion and materials degradation. This pathway has led to collaborations with major infrastructure asset owners including utilities, manufacturers and the nuclear industry. A key goal is to understand how paint works to protect structures and thus to create more environmentally friendly and sustainable coatings.
