Professor Omar Matar FREng

RAEng/PETRONAS Research Chair in Multiphase Fluid Dynamics, Imperial College London

Omar Matar is world leading in the modelling and simulation of complex, industrially-relevant multiphase flows. His work spans sub-continuum scales, probed via molecular modelling-based methods, to metre-scales, for which bespoke combinations of CFD and data-driven approaches are developed.

His research is central to a wide range of industrial applications, covering (upstream and downstream) oil-and-gas, manufacturing, and fastmoving consumer goods, combining a rigorous, fundamental approach with practically-implementable solutions. He is also the leader of a long-standing academia-industry consortium in the energy sector, which addresses challenges in flow-assurance through sound fundamentals, yielding insights that influence multi-billion-pound design decisions.
