Mark Harman founded the field of Search Based Software Engineering and shaped its direction over two decades, it is used by many companies. Most recently his work formed the foundation of Facebook's automated test design system Sapienz, following the move of Professor Harman and his two former PhD students, Ke Mao and Yue Jia to Facebook, from the start up Majicke, which they founded.

Facebook's deployment of Sapienz has led to this world-leading engineering work directly impacting over two billion people around the globe.
