Norman Smith is CEO of Vision RT, inventor, manufacturer and market leader for Surface Guided Radiotherapy (SGRT) equipment, employing over 250 staff worldwide with an annual turnover of over £50 million.

Dr Smith graduated from Cambridge University in Electrical Engineering and holds a PhD in Medical Image Processing from Imperial College. He established Vision RT in 2001 and in collaboration with his co-founders and external clinical experts, pioneered Surface Guided Radiotherapy. SGRT tracks 3D patient motion in real time and allows treatments to be delivered without the need for permanent tattoos (which can cause psychological trauma) or for invasive positioning equipment to be attached to the patient.

Vision RT’s equipment is interfaced to and controls the delivery of the radiotherapy machine, resulting in greater throughput, increased comfort and less trauma for the patient, and in some cases reduced morbidity.
