Tony O’Brien is a Chartered Civil Engineer specialising in Geotechnical Engineering. He is the Global Practice Leader for Geotechnics at Mott MacDonald Ltd and a Visiting Professor at the University of Southampton. He has made major contributions to geotechnical engineering, through both technical leadership and applied research.
He has led the geotechnical design of major projects nationally and internationally including: New Wembley Stadium, Crossrail London, UK): Port Mann Highway (Vancouver, Canada); new 3rd runway reclamation, Hong Kong International Airport. His applied research on the interactions between climate and earthworks deformation has been embodied into UK practice.
