Professor Simon Iwnicki FREng
Professor of Railway Engineering and Director of the Institute for Railway Research, University of Huddersfield
Simon Iwnicki is an internationally acclaimed expert in railway engineering and has established a world-leading railway research capability, the Institute of Railway Research (IRR), at the University of Huddersfield. His work and that of the IRR is primarily in the area of the dynamic behaviour of railway vehicles and their interaction with the track and this has provided practical solutions to specific problems in the industry, as well as making significant contributions to the understanding of some of the fundamental mechanisms of the wheel-rail interaction on which the safe and economical operation of railways depends.
The IRR is part of the UK Rail Research and Innovation Network (UKRRIN) and within UKRRIN it hosts the Centre of Excellence in Rolling Stock.
