Professor Jonathan Cooper FREng
RAEng/Airbus Sir George White Chair of Aerospace Engineering, University of Bristol
Jonathan Cooper is an internationally-renowned expert in the fields of aeroelasticity and structural dynamics. He engages closely with industry, developing technical solutions for the aerospace sector, enabling fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly aircraft designs through the exploitation of fluid-structure interactions. His work has achieved significant impact in industry, including development of folding wing-tips for loads alleviation, design of highly flexible wings, and blade-tip timing methods.
His contribution to the sector is evident in his Airbus-sponsored Chair, the award of a Royal Academy of Engineering Research Chair and his election as President of the Royal Aeronautical Society for 2019-20.
