Mark Carne CBE FREng
Former Chief Executive, Network Rail and HMG Accounting Officer for Network Rail
As Chief Executive of Network Rail, Mark led a £40 billion programme to operate and upgrade Britain's railways over five years, the biggest programme of UK railway investment for a century. He is simultaneously ensured Network Rail pioneered a technological step change, by adopting the ‘digital railway’ to solve the twin challenges of expanding capacity and improving asset integrity on an old, overcrowded network.
He spent 20 years in the oil industry, and his engineering achievements encompass Shell's North Sea response to the Cullen report (late 1980s), and two massive pioneering sour gas projects in Kazakhstan and Oman.
