Professor Paul Watson FREng
Professor of Computer Science, Newcastle University
Paul Watson is Professor of Computer Science and Director of the Digital Institute at Newcastle University. He has led several major research projects in scalable computing, including the North Regional e-Science Centre and the Research Councils UK Digital Economy Hub on social inclusion through the digital economy, which focused on using technology to transform the lives of older people and those with disabilities.
After studying for a BSc and completing a PhD in Computer Science at the University of Manchester, he took a lectureship there before spending time in industry to productise the result of a collaborative research project. He received the 2014 Jim Gray eScience Award.
