Professor Juergen Maier excels in managing strategic change in the manufacturing and engineering sector. Siemens is a very significant investor in the UK, and under Professor Maier’s leadership, it is investing more in R&D and manufacturing activities.  

In 2016, Siemens opened a brand new offshore wind-turbine blade-manufacturing facility in Hull, which is beginning to spark supply-chain opportunities for the UK engineering sector. Such activities are supported by investment in skills and Professor Maier has taken leadership for Siemens, and the wider UK engineering sector, to train more engineering apprentices. Siemens currently employs 550 apprentices in the UK and has recently opened a national training academy for railway apprentices in Northampton.
