Project overview
The noise emitted from ducted rotors in aero-engines, marine propellers, UAV rotors and industrial ventilation fans is a major environmental concern. Fan noise is often a significant obstacle for the further expansion of airport traffic, the usage of un-manned aerial vehicles (UAV’s), and other marine transportation. There is much evidence to suggest that an important noise source in these cases is the noise generated by the unsteady flow occurring in between the gap between the rotor and the duct wall. The goal of this project is to reduce this noise source by novel low-noise concepts applied close to fan tip.
