Research Fellowships 2018
The use of advanced imaging sensors is on the rise, with wide-ranging applications and profound societal implications in areas such as environmental monitoring, healthcare, and autonomous navigation. However, there remains significant challenges because of the massive volume of data when performing high-dimensional imaging (including spanning spatial, temporal, spectral dimensions), or high noise level when imaging under extreme conditions resulting from real-world constraints (for example, low light or fast imaging).
Dr Halimi aims to develop new computational methods for next-generation smart sensing systems that are scene-dependent and task-optimised. He will tackle these challenges by developing statistical-based computational methods for efficient data acquisition and robust information extraction from single photon detectors and more generally particle detectors.
Dr Halimi’s research will create a vital link between the image processing and photonics fields by embedding these computational methodologies into intelligent systems, hence enabling them to deliver high-quality information for reliable decision-making.
