Visiting Professor
Robin Sloan received a PhD in microwave engineering, from UMIST, Manchester, in 1991. Rob has over 30 years of experience in microwave and millimetre-wave electronics including MMIC and microwave power amplifier design. He is currently an industry consultant with active projects in on-wafer millimetre-wave measurements, calibration, device modelling and electromagnetic applications including microwave non-destructive test. The applications for his current work include next generation measurement platforms for advanced 5G, 6G and mm-wave satellite band communications and microwave inspection of composite materials. He is a Chartered Engineer, Fellow of IET and Senior Member of IEEE. He was a Royal Society Industry Fellow from 2014 – 2018. During his academic career (1994 – 2017) Rob published over 100 refereed papers and graduated 20 PhDs. His aim for the fellowship is to improve the provision of microwave, RF and electromagnetic engineering in the curriculum to increase the employability of graduates by making them ‘industry ready’. Promotion of these subjects should help address the critical shortage of engineers with these skills and simultaneously provide fulfilling career pathways for new graduates.
